A Journey from the Heart of Bengal

Every Durga Puja begins with Maa Durga.

For us, this journey began thousands of miles away in Kumartuli, Kolkata - the historic neighborhood known for generations of traditional clay idol makers.

Our Durga idol has made the journey from Kumartuli, Kolkata to Charlotte, North Carolina, carrying with her a piece of Bengal's artistry, tradition and heritage.

From the hands of the artisans in Kumartuli to our Puja in Charlotte, this is more than the journey of an idol.

It is a journey of tradition from Bengal to the Carolinas.

We are excited to share this journey with our community - from the making of Maa Durga in Kolkata, to her journey across the ocean, and finally to her arrival in Charlotte.

Kumartuli → Charlotte

Kolkata, India → Charlotte, USA

A journey of art.
A journey of faith.
A journey of tradition.
A journey home.

Experience the Spirit of Bengali Durga Puja

Durga Puja is much more than a religious festival.

For Bengalis around the world, it is a time when families come together, friends reunite, new friendships begin and communities celebrate their shared heritage.

It is the sound of the dhak.

The fragrance of flowers and incense.

The excitement of getting dressed for Puja.

The first sight of Maa Durga.

The gathering for Anjali.

The anticipation of Bhog.

The music, dance, laughter and endless conversations.

And finally, the bittersweet emotions of saying goodbye.

This is Puja.

And this year, Charlotte Utsob wants to bring that feeling to Charlotte.

Puja, Food & Bengali Traditions

A Bengali Durga Puja celebration would not be complete without food, culture and community.

Throughout the celebration, we plan to bring together some of the traditions that make Puja special, including Pushpanjali, Bhog, Bengali food, cultural performances and Sindoor Khela.

Our goal is to create an atmosphere that feels familiar to those who have celebrated Puja before — while making it welcoming and accessible to those discovering Bengali culture for the first time.

Bengali Music, Dance & Cultural Programs

Durga Puja has always been a celebration of Bengali creativity.

Our cultural programs will showcase the talents of our community through Bengali music, dance and performances, with opportunities for children, families and adults to participate.

From traditional performances to contemporary interpretations of Bengali culture, our stage will celebrate the diversity and creativity of our community.

Program details and performance schedules will be announced soon.

A Celebration for Everyone

You do not have to be Bengali to celebrate with us.

You do not have to know the rituals.

You do not have to know the songs.

You simply have to come with an open heart.

Charlotte Utsob believes that culture becomes more meaningful when it is shared.

Our Durga Puja is an invitation to our friends, neighbors and the wider Charlotte community to experience the warmth of Bengali hospitality and discover one of India's most beautiful cultural celebrations.

Bengalis. Indians. Families. Friends. Neighbors. Everyone is welcome.
