Saraswati Puja
Saraswati Puja is a Hindu festival dedicated to Saraswati, the goddess of learning, wisdom, music, and the arts. It is traditionally observed by students, educators, artists, and families to seek blessings for knowledge and creative pursuits. The celebration typically includes:
-
Offerings and prayers (puja) to Saraswati in a small ceremonial setup
-
Blessings for new books, notebooks, and instruments
-
Hatekhori (the rite marking the initiation of learning) and anjali (offering of flowers)
-
Prasad, a blessed food distribution
-
Cultural activities such as music, dance, storytelling, and performances by children and adults
In many communities, Saraswati Puja marks the start of the spring season and academic or creative endeavors for the year. The atmosphere is educational, welcoming, and family-friendly, emphasizing learning, sharing, and community spirit.
